Kiddo's texts are not chosen subjectively. Each text is calibrated using a Lexile measure specifically selected for reading fluency assessment and validated against real readings by Chilean students. This makes one third-grade result comparable with another third-grade result and with the same student's performance six months later.
Without calibration, comparing two different readings tells us very little: the difference could come from the student or from the text.
